SELECT THE RIGHT FABRIC
Choosing the right fabric is very important when it comes to designing and furnishing your home. You want to take into consideration many things. For instance, do you have pets in your home, children or grandchildren. Perhaps the sofa gets a lot of use or a lot of natural lighting. Knowing these things will make it much easier for you to select the right fabric when custom ordering your furniture. Many parents, grandparents and pet owners worry about stains, spills, and dirt. Well, our experts at Santa Barbara Design Center can help you select the best stain resistant fabric to fit your needs. From over a hundred different fabrics to choose from, including Kravet, Duralee, Sunbrella, and Ralph Lauren.
CHOOSE A STYLE
When custom making your dream sofa we always go step by step to insure that you get exactly what you asked for. It is really important to know what style you want your couch to be. Whether its traditional, modern, contemporary, or mid-century. In interior design you ideally want your sofa to complement everything else in your home. That means if you have a transitional home, then perhaps getting a sofa with a round arm like the Sol Sofa.
SELECTING YOUR COMFORT
After choosing the style of your choice, you want to move forward with selecting a comfort. Our staff will guide you toward what will be the best comfort to fit your needs. If you are an older couple per say, you might want a sofa that is easy to get out of. In this case a standard foam fill will be ideally the best fit. Foam fill will give you the support you are looking for, and choose from either soft, medium, or firm. In other words, if you like a softer couch that is yet supportive and you can come home to and relax. We recommend angel hair fill wrap. A synthetic polyester that wont lose its shape throughout time. Don’t worry about having to fluff your pillows every so often. Angel hair will bounce back and keep its shape for years.
Lastly, Down wrap fill is considered the absolute gold standard of insulation. Down is not a fill we quite recommend but carry to give our clients options. Most buyers would actually prefer down fill. Others stay away from it due to allergenic reasons or because they find themselves fluffing pillows every time they get up from their couch. Not to mention the feathers start pocking out and getting loose.
FINISH OF WITH CHOOSING THE RIGHT FABRIC !
Now that you have selected your style and comfort it is time to select the right fabric. Our knowledgeable staff always makes sure that you fall in love with a good durable fabric. Keep in mind that you will be living with this sofa and the fabric on it for years to come. The most recommended fabric in our showroom is our polyester line. Made with 100% poly making it easy to keep clean and very durable. You can not destroy it.
Unlike cotton which we all know has been around for thousands of years. Cotton accepts dye so well, it can also stain easily or pick up color off a pair of new blue jeans. Cotton’s ability to absorb moisture also has a downside, for instance spills soak in quickly. But there is hope. Cotton blends can reduce the absorption factor and fabric protection treatments will help fend off stains.
SUNBRELLA
Furthermore, if you want to be save, than sorry their are a few ways to keep your sofa staying nice and clean with out worrying about spills or stains. Looking into Sunbrella fabric can be an alternative. Many automatically assume that Sunbrella is this rough, scratchy fabric made only for awnings or umbrellas. But that is not the case. Sunbrella comes in both indoor and outdoor fabric. Along with many different patterns and textures. Sunbrella fibers are saturated to the core with highly UV-stable pigments, making Sunbrella fabrics resistant to fading and the degrading effects of sunlight. All Sunbrella fabrics are engineered to resist mold and mildew. Should exposure to dirt and debris cause mold and mildew to occur, all Sunbrella fabrics can be easily and safely cleaned with bleach.
With rich textures and a variety of colors and patterns to choose from, every Sunbrella upholstery collection features body cloths created for foundational upholstered furniture pieces such as sofas, chairs, ottomans and more, that set the tone and style of a space.
