Easy to Clean. Easy to Love: The Beauty of High-Performance Fabrics

Posted by Grace James on

Life gets messy—but your furniture doesn’t have to. At Santa Barbara Design Center, every piece of our custom furniture is upholstered in high-performance fabric, combining luxury and practicality in one.

Whether it’s a sofa, sectional, or accent chair, these fabrics are designed to stand up to everyday living without losing their beauty.

What Makes High-Performance Fabric Different

High-performance fabrics are woven from advanced fibers like polyester, acrylic, or olefin, engineered for strength, stain resistance, and easy maintenance. Unlike traditional upholstery, these materials repel liquids and resist fading—making them ideal for busy homes or sunny California spaces.

How to Keep It Looking New

Caring for your fabric doesn’t have to be complicated—just consistent. Here are a few simple tips to make your furniture last:

  • Vacuum weekly: Regular vacuuming keeps dust and dirt from settling into fibers, helping maintain color and texture.

  • Blot spills immediately: Don’t rub! Use a clean, dry cloth to absorb liquids.

  • Spot clean with water: For polyester-based fabrics, a damp cloth and mild soap can remove most stains—no harsh chemicals needed.

  • Follow fabric care codes:

    • W: Use water-based cleaners.

    • S: Use solvent-based cleaners.

    • W/S: Either type is safe.

    • X: Vacuum only—no liquid cleaning.

  • Keep out of direct sunlight: Even though high-performance fabrics resist fading, rotating cushions and minimizing sun exposure will extend their lifespan.

The Santa Barbara Design Center Difference

We believe in doing things right—the first time. Our high-performance fabrics are:

  • Eco-friendly and low-emission (no harmful gas offs)

  • Customizable in color, texture, and feel

  • Locally upholstered for quality control and faster turnaround

Because furniture shouldn’t just look good in a showroom—it should look good in your living room, year after year.
